September Meeting Minutes

Minutes for Heartworks meeting 9/29/08

People in attendance: Jan, Missy, Julie, Julie and Lisa

Discussed the Mission statement of Heartworks:
OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Heartworks is to create opportunities for women to gather for their own spiritual and emotional growth and to generate acts of kindness in the community and throughout the world. We believe that through giving to others we open ourselves to more fulfilling lives, deeper relationships and the feeling of God in our hearts.

Check out the amazing new website launched this month www.njheartworks.org

First order of Business:
Clothing Drive- Carmel Furtado had made a suggestion for a winter specific clothing drive at the last meeting. We have put Carmel’s fantastic idea into action.

Clothes From the Heart
Winter clothes (all sizes welcome) washed and in good condition (no tears, rips, or stains)
Collection sites:
-Jan at New Morning Foods on Depot Street
-Carmel Furtado at Leaves of Gold on Elm Street
-Maple Street School

Event Date: NOVEMBER 15th

Clothes must be dropped off by November 9th to be sorted

Ideas for Clothes drive: separate by sex as well as items (pants, coats, etc)

We will need Tables and possibly racks to set up clothes
Bags for people to take home items. (Let’s consider asking that people bring their own bags to keep it green and reuse) We will iron out details at next meeting.

We need a PR person to advertise the event in the Guide, Herald and the Journal
We will also need to set up a schedule to work the event throughout the day.

Second order of business:
Kids bake Sale:

Lisa would like to begin having some youth based functions and incorporate them into our mission. The idea is to start kids off with a sense of balance and a generous heart.

Mid October Bake sale:
Site possibilities:
Shaw’s
BBA
Julie is discussing Shaw’s as a site possibility with general manager of Shaw’s.
After we get the space we will pick a day and contact everyone for bake sale items and to sign up to work the tables with their kids.
As the information becomes concrete it will be shared

Third Order of Business:

Julie Crosler is running in a marathon to raise money and awareness for Autism (GO JULIE!) On October 25th she will tackle the OAR (Organization For Autism Research) Run For Autism in Washington DC. Heartworks is donating $100 from the money they raised at last Springs Farm day to OAR in honor of Julie’s run. To donate on Julie’s behalf checks can be made out to OAR and mailed to Julie Crosler P.O Box 191 Arlington VT 05250
If you would like more information about the event or to learn more about Autism, please feel free to contact Julie directly at: jatraen@hotmail.com

Fourth order of business:
Grace Sherwoods cause. Many people have been raising awareness to Grace’s medical needs as she has two fundraising benefits on her behalf. At this point Heartworks is happy to donate $100 that was earned from our farm day to support Grace’s care. To get more information about donating to Grace’s cause please contact Norene Peck at 362-4254.

And Finally…..

The issue came up how do we follow up with friends and folks in town that we have supported. We feel that the person/s who initiated contact with an individual should follow up as they feel is necessary. Any further input about this is welcome.

Green tip for the Month: Visit, www.greencycle.org. Green cycle is an online trade group where you can give away items to neighbors instead of tossing them. As they say, one persons junk is another persons treasure. Thanks Stacy!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR HEARTWORKS NEXT MEETING:

Time 5:00

Bring an appetizer to share and a friend! We’d love to make this next gathering a more social and meaningful event. Lisa is excited to expand on the mission statement and share the motivations that inspired Megan and the grass roots of this organization.
