Dear friends:

It has been a trying summer with many sudden and unexpected losses in our community. Most recently, dear friends of ours discovered that during a routine physical, their 13 year old daughter, Bridgette, was in the final stages of kidney failure. You can follow Bridgette’s blog (attached link) to see the courage, strength and exhaustion this family has faced.

Mark and Megan live in Winhall. Mark is a contractor and Megan is a nurse at the Otis Clinic. Along with Bridgette, they have a son Matthew, age 10.
A great family who could use our help and support. Here is where you come in….

minutes

Attendees:
Victoria, Jan, Karen, Oliver, Taylor, Julie and Lisa

Over delicious and healthy snacks, we discussed how to approach this new year.

Opening our time together, Lisa brought up that she is eager to revamp how we hold meetings, and is hoping to include a more nurturing atmosphere moving forward. She envisions moving the group from a public venue to a private home. We also discussed having people share books, and inspirational stories and quotes to better impact/support everyone attending. Overall Lisa would like to make the meetings more attendee friendly.

We would like to send off a press release thanking every group/business that was so generous with donations towards our Bike, Bike and Trike Fundraiser. Within the PR we will include a thank you for The Locks of Love donation from Frances from the Hair Retreat as they were never appropriately acknowledged. Some of the local groups that helped support our cause were, Shaws, Price Chopper, Maple Street school, Jan Kelly and Kerri from Stratton. Mary Keyes was on the grill and did the cooking. All have been super generous and deserve proper accolades of thanks.

Clothing Drive:
We are discussing the idea of having the second annual clothing drive this November. We have come up with the date of November 14th. Our greatest concern is, after last years closet overhauls, will we have enough clothes to collect to offer to the public? We’d love some feedback, as we feel that this was such a super success.
Victoria also suggested that we contact the, “blanket guy”. A local man who collected and gave away blankets to those in need last winter. She was thinking we could combine our efforts into one event. We discussed if we did decide to go through with the drive, we would hold the event on November 7th or 14th. Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Who we are helping:
Over the Summer, Lisa followed through and gave money from Heartworks to the Felencheks.

We also discussed lending our support to a local couple that is in need of our help. At this point we are keeping the name of the family anonymous as they are not comfortable having people aware of their situation. The biggest challenge right now is that their home is in need of some roof repair. They have been a great support in the community and now really need our help. We are hoping to get any suggestions from folks if anyone has connections to offer free or reduced fee construction work/costs for supplies. Ideas are welcome.

Finally, Lisa is hoping to make a standing meeting time and day for each month. She realizes that this might not work for everyone, so she would love feedback moving forward. The day’s discussed were the second Sunday or Wednesday of each month. Meeting time would be either from 5:00-6:30 or 6:00-7:30. We’d love to hear what you think about this.

I think this wraps up the meeting:

The Power of One

As the soot, and the dirt,
And the ash rained down,
We Became One Color

As we carried each other
Down the stairs of burning buildings,
We Became One Class

As we lit candles
Of waiting and Hope,
We Became One Generation

As firefighters and police officers
Fought through the inferno,
We Became One Faith

As we whispered or shouted
Words of encouragement,
We Spoke One Language

As we gave our blood
In mile-long lines
We Became One Soul

As we mourned togther
The great loss.
We Became One Family

As we’ve retold with pride
The sacrifice of heroes,
We Became One People

Behold,
Americans United….

The Power Of One
